Wednesday 24 August
After three days of hiking and climbing peaks we’ve now arrived in Lauenen outside Gstaad. In the days it’s really sunny and hot, in the evenings usually rain and thunder. Right now there is a phenomenal hailstorm. Tomorrow we continue up to Wildhornhütte at 2303 meters.

Thursday 1 September
We have now been walking for one more week and have arrived in Saas-Fee. On the way from Lauenen we passed over from Berner Oberland to Valais, it was snowing in the Rawil-pass, 2400 m, that day but we had a great day, which ended in a fantastic chalet in St Romain (west of Crans Montana),  the whole house for ourselves and a wonderful improvised pasta dinner. On Tuesday we passed our hihgest point so far, Augstbordpass, 2900 m, and yesterday we had a beatiful and long walk high above the Saas Valley, with some steep and airy passages. Now we are resting and touristing in Saas-Fee, preparing for the last stretch, to Monte Moro pass.

Sunday 4 September
The Ibex Expedition has now reached its final stage. This morning the 3 remaining participants split up at the Monte Moro Pass and Asa and Agneta turned back home, while Olof descended down into Italy, to finish the expedition this week. The last days have been both joyful and disappointing. On Thursday morning heavy clouds covered all the 4000 peaks around Saas-Fee, including Weissmies. The forecast for Friday was identical, so we decided to cancel the Weissmies summit tour and found an alternative tour at a lower level, that would have taken us directly to the Monte Moro Pass already on Friday. The weather forecast turned out correct – except only for Friday morning until noon, when the weather was clear and sunny! That would have been sufficient for the Weissmies climb!! Moreover, our alternative tour proved to be too difficult, because of bad weather at a very delicate passage (Jazzilucke) at 3000 meters and lack of time. So we ended up back in Saastal, in a nice inn in Saas-Almagell. Saturday was splendid and we reached the Monte Moro Pass and Oberto hut, passing the Mattmark water reservoir, in 3 hours (from the barrage). No visibility at Monte Moro however, so we only caught minimal glimpses of the magnificent Monte Rosa East Face. It has been raining since we checked in at Rifugio Oberto and until now, Sunday afternoon. Thank you, Agneta and Asa (and Uffe) for two superb weeks! I hope I can finish the expedition in the same splendid way. The rest of this report will be in Swedish. I’ll get back as soon as I can.

Tisdag 6 september

Alperna lag bakom mig, aventyret ar over for den har gangen.
Tack for mig sa lange,
Olle
